God's Covenants
With Mankind
bible study
by Pastor Janice L. Williams
There are many covenants in the Bible that God made with man. For this Bible Study we will examine
5 Great
Bible Covenants
The first man Adam [Genesis 2:15-17 KJV] * 15And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
5 Great Bible Covenants
THE COVENANT GOD MADE WITH NOAH & HIS SONS
GENESIS 9:8 THRU 17 KJV
8/And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, 9/And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; 10/And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. 11/And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
12/And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13/I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. 14/And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: 15/And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16/And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. 17/And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
[Genesis 17 NIV]
1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. 2Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.” 3 Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, 4 “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. 5 No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. 6 I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. 7 I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. 8The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.” 9 Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. 10 This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. 12 For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. 13 Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. 14Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.” 15 God also said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah. 16I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.” 17 Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?” 18And Abraham said to God, “If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!” 19 Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation. 21 But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year.” 22When he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him. 23 On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household or bought with his money, every male in his household, and circumcised them, as God told him. 24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised, 25 and his son Ishmael was thirteen; 26 Abraham and his son Ishmael were both circumcised on that very day. 27 And every male in Abraham’s household, including those born in his household or bought from a foreigner, was circumcised with him.

Another covenant was between God and King David, in which David and his descendants were established as the royal heirs to the throne of the nation of Israel [2 Samuel 7:12-13].
This covenant agreement reached its fulfillment when Jesus, a descendant of the line of David, was born in Bethlehem. The gospel of Matthew starts off by showing Christ was the Son of David [Matthew 1:1]. Therefore He had the right to rule over God's people. Peter preached that Jesus Christ was a fulfillment of God's promise to David [Acts 2:29-36].
The "new covenant" is the new agreement God has made with mankind, based on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The concept of a new covenant originated with the promise of Jeremiah that God would accomplish for His people what the old covenant had failed to do (Jer. 31:31-34; Heb. 11:7-13). Under this new covenant, God would write His Law on human hearts. The Epistle to the Hebrews gives the new covenant more attention than any other book in the New Testament. It quotes the entire passage from Jeremiah 31:31-34 (Heb. 8:8-12). Jesus is referred to by the writer of Hebrews as "the Mediator of the new covenant" (Heb. 9:15; 12:24). The new covenant, a "better covenant ... established on better promises" (Heb. 8:6), rests directly on the sacrificial work of Christ.
Unlike the Mosaic covenant which God made with the Hebrew/Israelite people; the new covenant of Jesus Christ is intended for all mankind -- regardless of race or weather a person has ever been circumcised in the flesh or not. In the Great Commission Jesus sent His apostles into the entire world so they could tell the story of the cross (Luke 24:46-47; Matt. 28:18-20). The gospel call is extended to every man, woman, boy and girl today!
But make no mistake, Luke 21:24 tells us: "Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled." And in Romans 11:25-27 KJV we read: 25/For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in. 26/And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27/For this is my [God's] covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

COVENANT/COVENANTS
See "The 10 Comandments" in the "Mosiac Covenant" below:
DEUTERONOMY 5:1 THRU 24 KJV
FOR THE WEEK OF JUNE 1st thru 8th, 2011:
Matthew 26:28 KJV
"For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins."
The death of Jesus, ushered in the new covenant under which we are justified by God's grace and mercy and now have true forgiveness of sins with eternal life.
Through this Blood Covenant we are heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ Himself [Romans 8:17]. Everything God has belongs to us because we have a blood covenant with Him through Jesus. Whatever we have need of spiritually, mentally, physically, or materially, God promises to provide for us.
Jesus gives us the right to use his name. We are His bride and He is our groom. The Bible tells us that God has given us power in Jesus' name to drive out demons
[LUKE 10:17, 19 KJV * 17/LORD EVEN THE DEVILS ARE SUBJECT UNTO US THROUGH THY NAME (THE NAME JESUS). * 19/ BEHOLD, I GIVE UNTO YOU POWER]
and heal the sick [James 5:14, 15 KJV* 14Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.]
and that whatever we ask the Father in Jesus name, He will give it to us [John 14:13, 14 KJV 13And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.].
Revelation 5:9, 10 * for thou [JESUS] wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; 10/And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Remember: Christian prayer is a covenant relationship between God and man in Christ. Covenant is how God has chosen to communicate with us, to redeem us, and to guarantee us eternal life in Jesus.
